What is “The Sattvic Diet”?

A Sattvic Diet is not a new idea. It is as old as Yoga. However, it is largely overlooked by most people practicing Ayurveda and Yoga. This is where our use of “The Sattvic Diet” comes in…
Simply put David Woolf author of “Integrative Ayurveda” is proving that a Sattvic Diet is the most important remedial measure to be applied for everyone (well, almost everyone) who is implementing Ayurveda or Yoga. In fact it is more important then even knowing your Dosha or practicing any Asana. Due to its’ initial and nearly universal importance we call it “The Sattvic Diet”…
“But what is Sattva”? There is a Vedic philosophical explanation! However, I will give you my more western interpretation. To understand Sattva we must first understand what is NOT Sattva. Rajas is the quality of focusing on everything around and outside ourselves. Tamas is the quality of obsessing on everything about and inside ourselves. Sattva is allowing our attention to be on the Source. It is a harmony between outward and inward and makes us more transparent to the Source.

To keep it less esoteric: Rajas is excessively stimulating, and Tamas is excessively sedating. Sattva is mild and promotes harmony.

The Sattvic Diet is food, and it’s more! It is how food is prepared, and how it is enjoyed. It is also your relationships, and your ethics. How you use your senses and imagination. What you do with your time. In short Sattva is a way of life that is compatible with EVERY other religious or secular tradition we have found. Yes, you can keep Kosher and be Sattvic. Buddhist? Easy. Humanitarian? You bet. Vegetarian? Ha, simple.

The Sattvic Diet reconfigures the DNA so that the body is balanced in terms of it’s input and output. We are so confident that The Sattvic Diet works that we are just waiting to get on the Doctor Oz show to tell the world! Alas, we will have to start here. Some cases which we have applied The Sattvic Diet to are: traumatic brain injury, infertility, migraines, anxiety, weight loss, and more…

So we will be posting recipes, and other great stuff…The Sattvic Diet…the best kept secret of Ayurveda and Yoga.
